Wow I can’t believe how times flies! I finished up my practicum last week, and I am currently wrapped up in the very fun task of finishing up final projects and studying for exams. I keep having those moments when I stop to think about how I’m almost finished with my junior year of college. I only have one more semester before student teaching, and I’ll soon be out in the real world! Scary, huh? As scary as becoming a real adult sounds, I have to say that I’m also very excited. I have always loved school and could never imagine actually being done with my career as a full time student, but this semester has really made me excited about planning my future. I’m more confident than ever that I will love being a teacher, and I can’t wait to get started!
My last week at my practicum was the perfect ending to the semester. Earlier that week, I taught a mini-lesson to my literacy class, and I was barely nervous. All of the practice teaching that I've been doing has really paid off, and I can just relax and have fun with it. The mini-lesson went great, and I was ready to take on the task of teaching my practicum students. That Thursday I was to teach a block lesson to three American Literature classes each with about 30 students each. Oh, and did I mention I was going to be observed by a college supervisor on the last block? All three lessons went very well, and the supervisor had great things to say at the end of the day. I was so proud and impressed with all of my students. They were so great! I love discussion-based classes, and so many students got very involved during class, saying some really interesting things about the excerpt from Richard Wright’s Black Boy that we were reading. The students knew that this was my last day of my practicum and that a supervisor would be watching me teach, and all the students teamed up to make it a great day. I have always tried my best to help the students and to get to know them, and I was incredibly touched that they all worked extra hard because they knew it was a big day for me. I’m going to miss seeing everyone, and I can’t wait until I get my next chance to connect with a class!
